Arakawa presented with 7,000,000 Yen diamond tiara "ribbon of ice"

Tiara Girl Shizuka Torino, February 26 - SShizuka Arakawa, winner of the Ladies Figure Skating Gold Medal at the Torino Winter Olympics has received a gold and diamond studded tiara. The crown style hair ornament was presented to the Olympic Champion prior to the closing of the Torino games on Sunday.  Japan's first ever Ladies Olympic Champion expressed shock and happiness at the gift.

"I'm really happy to have received something so fantastic," Arakawa said after receiving the tiara on Sunday. "I want to look at it (in a mirror)."

The tiara which is named "Ribbon of Ice"  is designed as several spirals of thin circular ribbon-like gold bands that represent spirals on the ice. It contains 2.5 carats of tiny diamonds covering the gold band and is worth $60,000 U.S. dollars.

The creation of the Tiara was a collaboration between the Turin State government of Piemonte gold workmanship association which produced the band from a contest winning design by a female student studying at the European Design Institute of Torino.  Arakawa is shown wearing the tiara in the photo (right) which celebrates her winning the Olympic Gold Medal.
